Maintaining a reliable transmission line network is crucial for ensuring uninterrupted power supply. However, traditional methods of inspection, which often involve manual visual inspection from the ground or helicopters, can be time-consuming, expensive, and unsafe.

How Kesowa Helped CESC Conduct a Conductor Survey

CESC, a leading power distribution company in India, approached Kesowa to conduct a conductor survey of their 220 kV and 132 kV transmission towers located across various locations in West Bengal. Traditional methods of inspection would have been slow and expensive, given the vast area that needed to be covered.

Kesowa deployed a team of experienced drone pilots to capture high-resolution images and videos of the transmission lines. The data was then post-processed to create a digital map of the entire network, along with high-resolution photos and videos of each tower. This data was tagged with GPS coordinates for easy reference.

The digital map and 3D models provided CESC with a clear and comprehensive view of their entire transmission line network. This data enabled them to:

  • Identify potential problems with the lines early on, before they can cause outages.

  • Plan and schedule maintenance activities more effectively.

  • Improve the safety of their inspection crews by reducing the need for manual inspections.

Result

By leveraging drone technology, Kesowa was able to provide CESC with a safe, efficient, and cost-effective solution for their transmission line inspection needs. This project is a testament to the power of drone data mapping for infrastructure asset management.

This project benefited CESC by providing them with the relevant way to inspect their transmission line network. The data collected by us helped them to identify and address potential problems before they can cause outages, ensuring a reliable power supply for their customers.
